5/29/2020: Paper acceptance, etc.

Agenda & Minutes

1. RS reports on paper acceptance. He would like to discuss an updated version next week.

2. Status reports. MH is finishing up a paper based on his thesis and is asking for us to help review it. PT had some comments on the paper he finished reading. Next time he will go over the paper in more detail after I upload it so we can screen share it during the discussion.

3. Discuss more of this on satellite lifespans. We discussed through the 4th paragraph in section 2 last time. 

4. DB still plans to add more problems to the "Strain Your Brain" items soon, based on the current reading such as eq. (1).

5. We may in the future discuss this on distributional forecasts. Should we find a MS student to apply this method to space exploration?


5/22/2020: Continuing in the same vein

Agenda & Minutes

1. Review minutes from last time. Updated them.

2. Status reports. MH discussed progress on a paper based on his thesis. RS reported his paper would be accepted soon with 2 more anonymous reviews. VJB reported some new figures for satellite lifespans that were not bucketed like last time. PT reported on some initial experiments with curve fitting using JavaScript, as well as comments on a paper comparing different models of technological change.

3. Discuss more of this on satellite lifespans. We discussed through the 4th paragraph in section 2.

5/15/20: Continued readings and updates

1. Status reports. Spend some time discussing time span buckets of satellite lifespans which VJB made some figures for.

2. Discuss more of this on satellite lifespans. We discussed the abstract and first two paragraphs of the introduction last time.

3. DB still plans to add more problems to the "Strain Your Brain" items soon.

4. We checked out the International Journal of Forecasting. 

5. We checked out Lancaster Centre for Forecasting.

6. We may in the future discuss this on distributional forecasts. Should we find a MS student to apply this method to space exploration?


5/8/2020: A new reading and etc.

1. We moved to Zoom because the teleconferencing number is being required to be phased out. After ironing out some wrinkles it worked fine.

2. Status reports. PT's MSIS proposal is fully accepted, so congratulations!
