5/14/21: Video on exponential decline in launch cost, etc.

   Agenda and Minutes

1. Updates and plans.

  • Updates? RS reports that 2 non-anonymous reviewers have reviewed the WMSCI paper but one said he never got the request. VJB has a new spreadsheet of results. MH reported looking into the impact of exponential technologies on inflation.
  • Registration and etc. fees: MH, PT, VJB, RS, any news?

2. Background literature update.

  • Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHtzJFgR7h8 specifically claims exponential space. Several minutes long. The claim is that cost of launch per kg is on a roughly exponential decline.
  • Anything to report? MH suggests videos and a blog, see https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=kartik+gada. He may suggest a specific reading or viewing for next time.

For general reference here are some generic questions about articles:

       a. What is the source?
       b. What is the most significant advance in the human knowledge presented in the paper?
       c. Why is that advance important?
       d. What important questions arise from the paper for future research?
       e. What important questions would it be nice if the paper answered, but does not answer?
       f. What does the paper present that is novel (no one else has provided that before)?
       g. What is the relevance of the paper to our satellite research goals?
       h. Questions from the group?

3. Reading and discussion:
    a. We finished the Reynolds and Szerszynski reading last time (to be removed from site soon). We will next start on Hu et al. 2015, A survey on life prediction of equipment (link to be debugged soon).
    c. We found that the paper at https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-40896-1_3 seems like a good paper for us to read.
